The Sacred Valley is an area in the Peruvian Highlands. It formed the centre of the Incan empire along with Cusco city and the sacred Machu Picchu. It stretches over 60km and it includes Spanish colonial settlements including Pisac and Ollantaytambo.
Pick you up from your hotel at 8.30am.
Travelling past Saqsay Huaman and over the mountains of The Sacred Valley. Our descent will be 1500ft to the Valley floor where we find ourselves next to The Sacred River of the Incas. Stopping at the Inca site in Pisac to visit a traditional market where you can browse and buy local souvenirs. After, we drive up to the Pisac Ruins, here we can explore the extensive site whilst enjoying stunning views over the valley.
You will be taken on a guided tour of the Citadel of Pisac, we will see temples, homes, altars, carvings, tunnels, caves and the famous Intihuatana, also known as The Hitching Post of the Sun.
Continuing towards Urubamba where we stop for a buffet lunch - optional.
Next heading to Ollantaytambo which is surrounded by The Sacred Mountains. We get to further explore more Incan constructions including the amazing Temple of The Sun, which has enormous blocks of rock perfectly carved and polished, along with stone water fountains, stairs and terraces. Also we get to see the beauty of the local people in their traditional dress surrounded by The Sacred Mountains and Valley of Patacancha and Willoq. On our way back we visit the famous Church and archaeological site in Chinchero.
We arrive back in Cusco city centre around 6.30pm.
