Brief description:

Choquequirao is located above the valley of Apurimac River which is 98km from Cusco city centre. Also known as "Cradle of Gold" it was built during the late 15th and early 16th Century. A great alternative trek to the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This 5 day trek will show you mountains with a variety of flora and fauna along with a varied climate. The ruins have been partially cleaned by COPESCO - the governmental institution who are responsible for the tourism in Peru. It covers more then 8 hectares and only a single third has been discovered. The archaeologists discover more every day.

Itinerary

Day 1

Cusco - Capuliyoc - Chiquisca

Leave Cusco city centre at 5.00am in a private car that will take us to the little town of Anta for breakfast, here we will meet our chef and assistant chefs. We will continue the drive to Capuliyoc taking around 3 hours, our porters and mules will be waiting there for our arrival. The first day will include walking for approximately 6 hours, descending towards the bottom of the valley until we arrive at Chiquisca, where we will camp for the evening.

Day 2:

Chiquisca - Marampata - Choquequirao

After a fuelling breakfast we start our long walk towards the Apurimac River. Crossing the bridge, the ascent takes approximately 5 hours, arriving at Marampata where we will stop for our lunch. Continuing the walk for another couple of hours until arrival at Choquequirao where we will set up camp.

Day 3:

Choquequirao

Spend the full day exploring the archaeological complex of Choquequirao.

Day 4:

Choquequirao - Santa Rosa - Chisquisca 

In the morning after breakfast we begin our hike until we reach Santa Rosa, here we have a break for our lunch.

It will take a further 6 hours of trekking before our arrival at Chiquisca.

Day 5:

Chiquisca - Capuliyoc - Cusco 

We begin the 4 hour ascent until we reach Capuliyoc. Here we will have lunch.

There will be a private car waiting for us to return to Cusco city centre arriving around 6.00pm.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
